GPA v/s Knowledge..!

i got a rap from my uncle today for scoring a 5.something cgpa..according to him and others, CGPA do count a lot ( read:important) and gives u some value addition..
however,i beg to differ..!
for me...i believe tht cgpa is just a eligibility cut off to sit for placements..Its over hyped and over rated..!!
what happened for the knowledge we thirst for?? wht abt learning abt different business terminologies(with their applications etc),strategies etc??
i believe in the knowledge MBA imparts and not the shit we dole out in papers to get marks!
@ times,u may or may not remember some points in the test paper, does that mean we are dodos?? we know nothing?? a mere test paper cannnot decide our fate.. it can lead us on a track but not decide..!
let me come back to cgpa matter, and tell u the reality.. the more closer a person gets to a professor the more numbers(marks) he gets..!! its a said and done thing in IBSB..! something like "u take care of me and i will see u r taken care of"..! many ppl in IBSB are crazy abt GPAs just to secure a job.. their motivational factors are different. from proving a point till paying of their loans! the book worms who make a mark on the GPA roster may or may not achieve the desired knowledge!
to conclude...
i give a damn abt gpa.. it doesnt define what type of a person iam or i would be!!
but the knowledge i got from MBA ( yes, its a definite value addition! iam seeing business in a clearer and better perspective) is definitely worth its salt !! a 5 pointer may exceed in his career tremendously whereas a 9 pointer may fail to do so !! its all upto ur capabilities and abilities.

  3. I have never believed in this bloody system of CGPA aka bullshit....no one can decide about a persons ability by what he vomits out in the exams...ask them one question out of those textbooks and they wil be blank...a 9 pointer would hardly know anything about the practical life...No company wants to choose talent with the CGPA scores...they look for talent which is defined by the people not by what u vomit out in exams !!

    Cheers Anu..!!

  4. nice column.....
ya, cgpa only matters for placements, but do they really????
i mean, expt from d.e.shaw wch other company asks for 9+ pointers???? or in that matter 8+ pointers also.....
i bet that a person getting A in all subject, wnt be able to make a better n realistic marketing strategy or h.r.policy in a practical world....
ya they may be able to make a better economic policy than ny other "normal human-being", but dnt these eco. policies suck?????? complicating ur already complicated life??????
ya i will respect a 9+ pointer, s he/she can remember more things or slog more things than i ever will be able to do in my life, but tats it...........
n thing abt prof. is all wrong.... u should be best "suckers" to gain thr favors....(that's the right word n real word i think)....
    in end-
    GOD bless all 8-9+ pointer........

  5. the scores are no real test for gauging a persons true intelligence !!
having said that ... i still feel they are important as they tell you something about yourself ... how retentive you are/ are you able to come up with a right answer in high pressure circumstances/ from employers point of view these grades help them sort the candidates...absence of this they would have to resort to trial and error.and who has the time to do so...
if you have good grades and zero practical knowledge of the subject ... your life would be hell in the corporate world as nothing there is out of the textbook.
study and work hard if not for grades for yourself!!
the thing about professors .... sad is all that i can say !

  6. further to the comment earlier ...
you are not in for the scores/not in for the placements... and thus you dont give a damn about scores and grades ... all good your logic and view point and works for you . GREAT
however donot ruin the sanctity of the whole system and belittle the efforts of all the people who are working their head off to score and get good grades.
you dont want to be a part of the rat race dont be ... stand out and enjoy the view ... but dont pass a comment ...that is worthless to strive for . it is big time derogatory .
some people really need to get out in the real world... fight for jobs pay loans .... save chip by chip to get life of their dreams ... and god knows how many even succeed in doing so after all the dust and grime.all this they do not because they hate sipping pina coladas in swanky beach resort and chill in life ... but becoz they dont have a choice ...

  7. no one can deny the true nature of GPAs for getting placements.... n we have always respected all the 8+ pointers, s they do have something extra then us.... no denying that....
when coming to practical world... or in that sense even practical papers..... r they there enuf to face them????
quoting example of law mid-terms papers - many people who have more than 8+ were not able to answer s expected from them, s the whole paper was out of the given textbook n based on real life case studies.... they said same thing wat v r saying now.... "esa to paper ho sakta hai???"

jabki, whn ny1 goes for interviews, they have to face these sort of papers in real world.....
there wnt be ny books supporting them there....
    "tab kya hoga????"
the point is - we r not degrading their achievements, but ya we r not even saying that they r more qualified then us, coz of their CGPA's....
n also about loans, well each n every of us has to pay off their loans n fight for job... one way or the other.....

  8. ds s wat i call "logically intellectual"

cgpa s r nuthin but a number .. a number can neva decide wt plethora of qualities u possess n wt degree of success u deserve

its undoubtely ur grey matter dt counts .. may it b interviews , job performance , ability to repay loan or more dn all being happily satiated in life !! (personal + professional front )

    so in a nutshell .. v share a similar ideology dear !!

well composed.. lukin 4ward 4 more of it !!
